Walid’s education and research background along with over ten years of collaborative applied BIM research with various industry partners have prepared him well to identify and understand the benefits of BIM for VDC and BIM for FM.
As president of VFC, Walid is responsible for identifying best VDC and BIM-FM technology solutions, developing relationships with industry clients and proposing solutions that satisfies their needs, making sure that all deliverables are completed as per the client’s contract requirements and to their satisfaction.
Walid is the W.E. Jamerson Professor of Building Construction and has been with Virginia Tech since 1997. He has spent the last 15 years exploring BIM, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. His work is focused on the application of BIM for 4D schedule simulation, clash detection, BIM for facility management and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality. He has also conducted workshops and seminars for various companies and industry organizations. He also teaches courses internationally. Walid is the managing director of the Virtual Facilities Research Lab at Virginia Tech. The lab conducts VDC and BIM-FM research to practice (R2P) projects, many in collaboration with diverse industry partners.
VFC was featured in AECBytes (Q2-2016). A research project with the Clark Construction Group on implementation of BIM-FM won the 2016 BIM Award at the 16th Annual Washington Contractor Awards, sponsored by AGC, Washington DC. A research project with Procon Consulting investigating the use of Augmented Reality and the MS Hololens for quality control of BIM As-Built models was presented at the 2019 CMMA Conference, Orlando, FL.
